Traditional IRAs: Distributions to Participants and Beneficiaries
(Presented By: Laura Wilson)

This webinar focuses on distributions from IRAs. It not only covers required minimum distributions, but also other needs to effect a payment from an IRA. Every distribution is required to be reported to the IRS. This program includes a review of the Form 1099-R. The use of transfers is also discussed.

WEBINAR TIME:
11:30AM - 1:30PM PT
12:30PM - 2:30PM MT
1:30PM - 3:30PM CT
2:30PM - 4:30PM ET
Required minimum distributions (RMDs) from traditional IRAs are necessary when participants reach age 70 1/2 or when the account is inherited. Distributions to participants and beneficiaries are the most complicated part of administering IRAs. While changes to IRS regulations in 2002 simplified the RMD calculation for distributions to participants and beneficiaries, there are still many issues associated with this task.

This webinar walks you through the process of notifying participants of RMD requirements when they reach age 70 1/2 , determining the required beginning date, calculating the RMD and reporting the distribution to the IRS. In addition, this program covers distributions requested by the participant prior to age 70 1/2 Taxation of distributions is not discussed in detail as it is not the responsibility of the IRA custodian or trustee.

Required minimum distributions to IRA beneficiaries cause the most confusion. Beneficiaries want to know their options - when they must begin taking money from the IRA and how much they will need to take. You must be prepared to answer these questions and take the steps necessary to follow through on the beneficiary's decision. There is a lot to know. This webinar gives you the tools to do the job. The manual includes quick reference charts to use when helping a customer.
