Reducing Fair Lending Risk

WHAT?
The current interagency Fair Lending examination procedures used by the OCC, FDIC, FRB, OTS and NCUA enable examiners to quickly and precisely identify a lender's fair lending problems by identifying areas of fair lending risk. This program shows how to identify and eliminate fair lending risk that can lead to examination problems, referrals to the Department of Justice and costly defense actions.

WHY?
Attendees learn how to:
-Identify and eliminate the risk factors that examiners look for during each fair lending examination;
-Avoid fair lending problems in various products and in various stages of the lending process; and
-Develop an action plan customized for their institution that includes positive steps to eliminate fair lending risk.
PROGRAM CONTENT
The program includes a review of consumer, real estate and commercial loans. It also covers various aspects of the lending process including:
-Developing lending policies;
-Marketing;
-Product steering;
-Taking applications;
-Underwriting loans;
-Loan pricing; and
-Extending credit.
WHO?
The program is designed for management of the loan department, Compliance Officers, marketing staff and Auditors. The program is presented at the intermediate level. Basic knowledge of the Equal Credit Opportunity and Fair Housing Acts is assumed.
PRESENTER
Jack Holzknecht is a principal with Pegasus Educational Services, LLC, a training firm headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. He is an experienced consultant who has provided training to thousands of bankers and examiners for twenty-four years. He has the ability to identify the key compliance issues from each regulation. Jack's career began in 1976 as a federal bank examiner. He later headed the form and software and education divisions of a regional consulting company. In that capacity he developed loan and deposit form systems and software. He also developed and presented training programs that were delivered to bankers in 43 states. Jack has been an instructor at compliance schools presented by the Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, New York and Texas bankers associations. He developed and delivered compliance training for the FDIC and OTS for ten years. He is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager and a member of the National Speakers Association.
